MS Widener is a free stereo widening plugin that solves a common problem. Widening a track can often make the bass sound thin and weak. This tool is designed to open up your stereo field while keeping the low end centered and solid. It's for anyone who wants wider mixes without losing punch.

It works by splitting the signal at a crossover point you define. Frequencies above the crossover are widened, while everything below is summed to mono. This is a simple fix. This mid/side approach ensures your kick and bass stay right in the middle, maintaining their power and avoiding phase issues that can ruin a mix when played in mono.

The plugin gives you a focused set of controls.

  • Width control: Adjusts the stereo spread from 0% (mono) up to 200%, which pushes the width beyond the original recording.
  • Mono Beneath: Sets the crossover frequency. Everything below this frequency remains mono.
  • Huge mode: An aggressive setting that can push the width up to 300%. It can cause phase problems, but on the right track it might be the effect you need.
  • Bass Monitor: Lets you solo the mono low-frequency content to hear exactly what is being kept in the center.
  • Goniometer: A built-in visualizer shows you the stereo field in real time. This feedback helps you see how your adjustments affect the track's width and correlation.
